Even Malibu isn’t immune from natural disaster (St. Tropez, that means tsunami watch for you). Wildfires throughout Southern Cali have called for evacuations of more than half a million people, and raged through the multi-million dollar mansions of Malibu’s privileged elite:
Suzanne Somers home has been destroyed, Olivia Newton John and James Cameron (director of Titanic) have been evacuated, and Sean Penn and David Duchovny’s homes are in pressing danger.
Nearby cribs include Jennifer Aniston, Nick Nolte, Sting, Tatum O’Neal, Rob Reiner, Goldie Hawn, David Arquette & Courteney Cox, and Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson, just to name a few.
These fires are thought to have been caused by months of drought, hot temperatures, and power cables being blown down by fierce winds. These guys say “Water is the most valuable resource on earth. Period.” The Governator would probably agree right about now. To conserve during a drought and otherwise, they estimate that turning off the water while you brush your teeth saves nearly a thousand gallons of water a year, and only washing full loads of laundry saves roughly a thousand gallons of water a month.
But here’s a word on water conservation from Josh Harnett: only boil the amount of water you need for your cup of coffee. Kandz
