North Korea’s Kim Jong-Il Loves Him Some Classical Music by Bacon Bits

We at Beanstockd believe that music (usually with Square One Vodka and some disco dancin’) has the power to bring people together. So when we learned that the New York Philharmonic agreed to perform in North Korea, our inner Taylor Townsend (The O.C.’s “Karl Rove of party planning”) thought it would be a great opportunity to break down barriers, have a mixer, and save some trees.

The insular country ruled by Kim Jong-Il is facing many environmental crises after years of deforestation and neglect. A ripple effect created by the eradication of forests has reduced crop yields and affected the groundwater, leading to a deteriorating standard of living for so many North Koreans.

Hopefully, this is just the first step in bringing this enigmatic country into the global community. Their people and environment could use it…and Kim Jong-Il won’t be so ronery.
